The Blog
Think vegetarian food with a fusion of international flair!
Much like our family, our food is mixed… a hodge podge of cultural elements thrown together and made our own. Most of our foods aren’t any one classic dish from here or there. Maybe it is an ode to our deep Southern roots, or a taste of our Asian ancestry, but then it is probably somehow fused from the Caribbean spices our Grandparents raised us loving…who knows!
As we learn and grow in our culinary and cultural experiences, it is our desire to share those special moments and the recipes with you…
Meet The Carmona Family
We are admittedly a little quirky (and totally proud of it)… we are vegans (when we aren’t being vegetarian), we are country-living homeschoolers. Culturally and ethnically we’re a spoonful of just about everything you can imagine (more specifically Chinese, Belizian, Columbian, Vincentian, African American, East Indian, etc. etc. etc.), and most importantly, booooy do we love good food!
Orlando is the super taster and head of the family, Ursula is the wife/mom extraordinaire keeping things running smoothly. Then there is Fiora, the organized one and resident baker, Priya the artist of the family, and Sayuri the creative craft aficionado.
The blog itself is primarily run by Ursula and Fiora, but everyone plays a part.
About Ursula

Ugh, so I’m kind of a serial overachiever (also a serial fall-short-every-stinkin-time-er… but it’s all good), as made evident by the fact that this is actually my second blog. My main gig is over at Home Made by Carmona where I’m always sharing DIY projects, decorating tips, and organizing hacks (as I attempt to get myself organized). I also love to build in my spare time, plus I manage my artist father’s online art studio + shop Donald Towns Art, I am an Airbnb host (come stay at our cute little guest house cottage!), oh and I homeschool my three awesome rugrats!
Want to know more? When I married my husband he introduced me to my inner geek, and a romance between me, him, Star Trek, and euro-board games began.
My flavor note: When it comes to food, I cook the way our family is…fusion. I love international foods, but I also love customizing it to our particular tastes. I prefer rich savory dark flavor notes (as opposed to bright and citrus-y). I guess I should mention my incurable sweet tooth right about here. It’s a problem.
About Fiora

Guys, if there is one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I love sweets. It’s as simple as that! So what do I make for my meals (no not dessert, my meals), to have for a snack, or just because I’m feeling it? Why, desserts, of course! While Mom does most of the cooking around here, I’m the resident baker. Sure, I can make savory breads (I have, like, one recipe guys), but what I really enjoy making are the complex, fancy-sounding desserts like French macarons and crème brulee. I hope to open my own bakery one day and become a skilled pastry chef. And I’m already on my way: year two of culinary school—commence!
Want to know more? Things I like to do in my spare time include cleaning (as I am a neat freak, or so I’ve been told) unless I’m baking (since that never translates to the kitchen; whoops!), practicing piano, reading (my three M’s, as I like to call it: manga, mythology, and mystery), and playing RPG video games.
My flavor note: Does sweet count? Because I really, really love sugar. My friends like to joke that I’ll only enjoy vegetables (and other savory dishes) if I sprinkle sugar on top. No I’m not a sugar addict, I promise. But hey, if I have to choose an international cuisine (and a savory meal, I guess), I would say that Asian food holds a special place in my heart.
